KJI manufactures wood pellets using environmentally responsible and sustainable practices to keep forests healthy and growing. We begin by sourcing the most environmentally friendly raw materials, such as fibre from low-value wood, tops and limbs, thinnings, and mill residues. Typically, these materials are left behind or burned in the field to make way for the next generation of lumber-grade timber. KJI does not source from old-growth forests, protected forests, or forests harvested to conserve land use.
The mix is then optimized to produce high-quality, consistent pellets. To achieve this, KJI takes unprecedented steps to understand the characteristics of various tree species and how their properties change from season to season. We collaborate with several universities on modelling, chemical composition research, and product testing.
